Kraainem FC

Kraainem FC. We Welcome Refugees Programme gives the opportunity for recently arrived refugees to Brussels the opportunity to take part in football practice with local youth, receive cultural and language workshops, and nutrition and social opportunities within a safe and secure environment. Kraainem FC work with a number of local FEDASIL centers (government agency for dealing and housing refugees) to provide these opportunities to as many children and young people as possible.

Based on the outskirts of Brussels, Kraainem FC’s ‘We Welcome Refugees’ programme was created in 2015 in response to the global migration crisis. The programme aims to help newly arrived refugees, aged 10-18, integrated into Belgium society by offering football activities with local youth, as well as offer cultural and language classes and a hot meal.

Working directly with local government refugee centres (FEDASIL), groups of young people come three times a week to the club to participate in a fun, safe and caring environment. Today the club gathers some 300 young people, from 6 to 21 years old, who evolve in 13 teams, play every weekend in competition in regional championships. Kraainem Football is a club open to the city and its children wishing to play football in educational and sporting conditions guaranteed by the supervision of responsible leaders and coaches.
